- Board of Management News.
The Board continues to work on behalf of the school. Major work is to take place over the summer months upgrading the heating system in the school and having new boiler and radiators installed
Our 125 year celebrations are going very well. There was a huge turn out to see all our old school records on display in April. Thanks to Teacher Ann Kavanagh for putting together this exhibition. Our next community event will take place on Sunday 30th September when Archbishop Eamon Martin will celebrate a special Anniversary Mass at 11a.m. in St Mary’s Church.
To mark our 125 year anniversary. Bellingham Castle have invited all the children and staff to have lunch in the castle on Wednesday 20th June. We will walk up from the school on that day to the castle. Aren’t we the lucky ones!!
- End of Year updates
- Thanks to staff, parents and children on the wonderful school year that we have had.
- School reports will be sent home with the children on Thursday 21st Children from 1st -6th Class had Standardised tests in Maths and English. Results of these tests will be written on the report and a note explaining the scores will also be included. These tests must be done by all primary school children in the country now and a summary of the results for 2nd,4th and 6th Class must be sent to the Department of Education each year.
- Booklists are being compiled and will be sent home before the Summer Break
- Parents Association Notes;
The Parents Association organized a number of fantastic fundraising events this year which were a great success. They will be sending a newsletter to you all shortly. The Parents Association intend organizing a school uniform swap day before the summer. Details to follow
Like last year we will have a graduation for 6th Class on Wednesday 27th June. Parents are invited to come in on that day at 1p.m when we will have a short graduation ceremony and some refreshments afterwards. The ceremony will be over by 2.30p.m. We would ask that parents bring the children home with them at this time. Past experience has taught us that sometimes when the children are over excited on their last day they at times can lose the run of themselves and a lovely occasion can be soured. I would also ask that you do not allow the children to come in to school on the Thursday.
- Active Schools Week and Sports Day
Active Schools Week will take place from 18th-22nd June. Children may wear their tracksuits to school for the week. On Friday of that week we will have our Sports Day at 11.15am (weather permitting of course)
The school shirt and jumper is available from Mc Evoys in Dundalk. Navy trousers, navy pinafores/skirts, navy tracksuit bottoms have always been available from major retailers like Dunnes and Penneys. McEvoys also stock a sew on school crest for anyone who wishes to buy a royal blue jumper elsewhere. As always any colour polo shirt can go with the school tracksuit for PE days. On PE days navy tracksuit bottoms, a coloured polo shirt and a navy round neck sweatshirt (crested available from Mc Evoys or if you decide to purchase elsewhere you will need to buy a sew on crest).
The uniform must be worn to school everyday, PE uniform is worn on PE days (or in exceptional circumstances). Hoodies, jeans, leggings, dungarees, other dresses, other tracksuits are not permitted. For the Summer and even September children may wear navy shorts to school with their school shirt or school polo shirt as their uniform. Very short shorts are really not appropriate!
I have seen some children have their old tracksuit bottoms(which they had grown out of) cut to shorts and hemmed and this looks very well. Don’t forget, The Parents Association intend organizing a school uniform swap day before the summer.
Towards the end of June the children from Rang 1-6 will go to a morning mass in St Mary’s Church on either a Wednesday or Friday at 9.30am. When a date is finalized I’ll let you know. Parents will be invited along to attend this mass.
Parents are asked to adhere to school policy about keeping party invitations out of school. Your support on this issue is much appreciated
Our now annual BBQ will take on our Sports Day which is 22nd June. All volunteers to man BBQs welcome.
On Friday 29th June the school will close at 12.15 for the Special Classes and Infant Classes and at 12.30 for the other classes for the Summer Holidays
Our new Junior Infants will be coming to visit the school on Friday 15th June. On this day our Junior and Senior Infants will be going home at 12 noon to facilitate this induction day.
